Helping your vehicle run that extra mile

A little extra care with your vehicle here and there and you’ll find yourself making savings – not just on general repairs, but on fuel costs as well!

Always try and keep your engine tuned!

A spark plug that’s misfiring can reduce your fuel efficiency by as much as 30%, meaning higher fuel costs.

Stick to the service schedules listed in the manufacturers manual and replace your filters and fluids as recommended by them, you’ll definitely feel the difference.

This can be an inconvenience in the hectic schedule most people lead today, but its well worth the effort. If the dealer is charging a small fortune for a tune-up, don’t be afraid to go and get a second opinion at a local, reputable garage. They can do the same service, usually at a fraction of the cost.

Keeping your vehicle tuned, serviced, and running smoothly is not only beneficial to you and the vehicle, it also means when you’re ready for a newer vehicle you’ll get a better resale value. All potential buyers like a full service history showing them that the car has been well looked after over the years.

Always check your tires for proper inflation. Under-inflation causes your engine to work harder to push the vehicle, wasting fuel in the process.

Wheels that are out-of-line or unbalanced make the engine work harder too. You can usually identify this by uneven tread ware or your vehicle pulling to one side, Keep your tires inflated properly, and you’ll save at the pumps.

Try to drive gently. Avoid sudden accelerations and the jerky stop-and-go routine. If your car has cruise-control try to use it as much as possible and keep your speed as steady as possible.

Avoid excessive idling, but bare in mind starting your vehicle is equivalent to 1 minutes idling. Today’s vehicles are designed to “warm up” quickly, so there’s no need to leave your car warming up for half an hour on winter mornings.

Don’t carry unnecessary weight in your vehicle. Less weight means better mileage. This may sound minor but all these little things add up over a year.

MINI Roadster Convertible

The outstanding MINI Roadster is the soft-top version of the new quirky looking Coupe. The Roadster is much better looking than the Coupe. It looks sleek and sporty.  The only difference between the Coupe and the Roadster is the fact the roadster has a soft top.  The MINI brand is known for its amazing handling and stiff suspension. Go cart like almost. The Roadster still has all of these good qualities.

To drop the roof it only takes roughly about 8 seconds. This makes it one of the fastest roof to go up and down on the market just now.  It can also open and close at speeds up to 20-30mph.  The Roadster is a lot lower to the ground than the MINI convertible which ultimately makes the Roadster a lot more fun and exciting to drive.

New Kia Ceed

There was something brilliant about the deal when the CEE’D was first released back in 2007, it had a massive 7 year warranty . It is a brilliant deal KIA have but its even better when the car with the 7 years warranty is a brilliant car. Its great to have deals like this because of the great crunch and its the added bonus knowing KIA have released an even better version of the CEE’D.

Unfortunately the  version before the new CEE’D was a bit boring looking, quite standard. However the current version of the cee’d looks much more stylish. It has the ‘tiger nose’ grille just like the new KIA Picanto which  makes the front of the car far prettier. The car overall looks brilliant. KIA are starting to become real car contenders.

Electric cars

Their are a wide variety of electric cars and the amount of them is ever expanding and now we are evidently seeing more electric cars entering the vast car market of today. But whats the good and bad points of these cars.

If you personally are looking for to buy a car that is green and good for the environment, then choosing an all electric car will seem a perfect choice for this.  They are obviously not for everyone because there are some speed demons who love their “real” cars.  Unfortunately a lot of electric cars have a limited range and take a very long time to charge

There are three types of cars different types of electric cars:  the hybrid, the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and the range extender.

Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Convertible

The new Mercedes-Benz SL  is very sporty and stylish and is a very beautiful car. In this genre of cars their isn’t many these days that doesn’t look sporty, elegant and beautiful. It has several rivals that include the Porsche 911 convertible  and BMW 6 Series cabriolet. So a way to make the Mercedes top class is by making it shed a few pounds of its heavy weight.

Each version of the Mercedes SL has had its wait reduced by 140kgs.  The Mercedes  is mostly made of aluminium and the car is lighter than the past generations and feels a lot more agile and sturdy as a result of this.  Making the car slightly lighter has made the car a lot more economical as well.  The Mercedes is a very sleek beautiful car.

Peugeot 208 Hatchback

The Peugeot 208 hatchback has a massive chance of being a definite great with buyers tat love the small hatchback. It’s very economical, looks amazing and has all the mod cons needed to be a good hatch back contender.  The body and design also looks sleek and stylish.

However their is a fatal flaw.  The ghost of the 1980′s. Three numbers.  205.  The 205 was a fantastic car and is strongly remembered as one of the greatest hatches ever made.  The 205 GTI may have been the greatest hot hatch of all times.

Lets be honest the 206 and 207 weren’t a patch on the 205.  So the 208 has a lot to look up to and the bar of expectations has been firmly set high to match up to the 205.  So hopefully the engineers at Peugeot have created something special.

Hot Hatch Day 5

Lets be perfectly honest, we all knew that Citroen would create a modified “racing car” version of the sporty, fun DS3. However don’t be fooled by the exterior. Even though its has decals, bright in your face colours and looks like a touring car. Basically what i’m trying to say is its not a “racing car” its a strong contender in the “hot hatch” genre.

This car is pretty quick! It has a 0-62mph speed of 6.3 seconds. It has this because of its meaty 207bhp engine that pushes out a top speed of 146mph. Thats a quite a lot considering its a small car.  There is one downside to the car. The price. The price of the car hits a massive £25,000 new.

Excluding the price this car is fast, fun and fierce. We’ll give this a high 9/10

Hot Hatch Day 4

Ford Fiesta ST

The Ford fiesta ST marked a brilliant return to create the small fast cars Ford once had. Many see the fiesta ST as a successor of its older brother the Fiesta XR2i.  The Fiesta ST has a rapid 2.0-litre engine with a relatively large 150bhp it can preform a 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds, and evidently the ST is not super quick or as fast as some other hot hatches, however the ST’s real strength is its tremendous handling. The Fiesta ST is Agile and exciting and has sharp brakes with stiff suspension offering the perfect handling experience.

9/10 for the Fiesta ST

Hot Hatches Day 3

Mazda 3 MPS

The Mazda 3 mps Has a meaty 256bhp. All of this horse power is blasting through  the front tyres. This makes the turbocharged Mazda3 MPS as powerful as any hot hatch on the market today – almost as fast as the new Focus RS.

On a smooth motorway road the Mazda’s 2.3-litre engine will fire you to 62mph in just under 6 seconds and then onto a  limited 155mph. So goodness knows what it really could go too.  There is  a lot of brillinant “come with the car” kit, including part-leather sports seats, a Bose stereo and climate control air-con. The car tax is rather excessive though at £456. Awesome car though.

8/10 for the MPS.

Great economy, fast performance.

One car in particular that falls in the category for a great economy however a high performance fast car is the new Skoda Fabia VRS. It has a meaty 1.4 litre engine with an excellent turbo giving it that extra push.  With the 177bhp engine pushing out a 0-62mph in just under 7 seconds this car can be serious contender to the hot hatch competition of 2012.

But its obviously not all about Power, speed and 0-62mph times. In this day and age economy is vital and this nippy little machine has a great 45mpg engine. So it is possible to have a fast car with brilliant runnig costs.
